I'm always looking for a creative way to practice some of the most boring theory concepts! My student Brooke, who's in the video below, is preparing to take her RCM Preparatory Rudiments Theory Exam in December. To pass the exam, she has a list of terms that she needs to know. Instead of quizzing her on a pile of flashcards (who likes to do that!?) I put all the terms into Ellen Degeneres' Heads Up! app, and we played a few rounds together. For those of you who don't know, Heads Up! puts a word on the screen of your iPad/iPhone, and your partner has to give you clues to get you to guess what the word is. This worked with both of us taking turns giving clues as the student is able to see word and know the definition, and hear the definition and know the word (two different ways terms could be presented on the exam). Brooke and I had a great time playing it, as well as reviewing her theory terms at the same time!
