Students at 88 Keys Piano Studio have been progressing through their method books these past few months! Now with summer just around the corner, it's not time to start slowing down. Summer lessons are a great way to really focus on piano practicing as there are less distractions than during the school year. Students can take this time to work on a more complicated piece outside of their method books, or start preparing for their first exam! Summer is a great time to also focus on things like theory and music history which we don't always have time for during regular lessons. Students, if you haven't already signed up for summer lessons, please do so soon!
One of the great things about having an iPad in the studio, is the many apps that students are able to use both during their lessons and home practice. A favourite among many of the students has been the Piano Maestro app. This app gives students access to many pieces of music from many different genres (pop, rock, jazz, and classical to name a few) as well as exercises to help develop their sight reading and technique. All the pieces in Piano Maestro have an accompaniment or a backing track. This allows students to learn how to continue playing after they make a mistake which is a key component for both sight reading and live performances. If you haven't downloaded Piano Maestro yet, I highly recommend you do!
I also wanted to say a huge thank you to those of you that have been using Music Teacher's Helper for all of your lesson cancellations/rescheduling! This has made things much easier for everybody as it allows you, the students, to cancel and reschedule your own lesson. No more trying to find a time that works for you and the teacher. You find the time that works for you! Same with selecting times for summer lessons and fall lessons. It's all up to you! So again, thank you to everyone who has been using Music Teacher’s Helper!
